Looking for something fun and educational to do with the family? The Museum of Discovery – downtown’s interactive science museum – has you covered. Here’s a sampling of what you’ll find inside:

Discovery Hall

Adults and kids alike will love this roomy gallery of hands-on exhibits devoted to physical science. Topics like energy and engineering are introduced to children at fun stations, including a magnetic ball wall and a bed of nails. You can also graph your walk, learn the secrets of bowling, test your strength, play with light and shadows, and make pendulum art.

Amazing You

This exhibit is all about the body and how to care for it. As you investigate the room, you’ll walk beneath “veins” pumping blood to a heart-pounding display teaching about circulation. Exhibits will test your flexibility, your reflexes, your stride — one can even tell you how much blood you have in your body! There’s a vein viewer and a “bodies wall,” where you’ll see inside the human body.

Earth Journeys

Head downstairs to discover the new gallery all about life sciences and Mother Nature. Explore extreme weather either behind the camera as a meteorologist or in Tornado Alley, where you hunker down into a storm shelter and experience a simulation of a tornado hitting a house. It’s intense! Live animals, including rabbits, reptiles and birds are also on display, and an incredible digital globe will take visitors on an educational tour around the world.

Amazing Airways

Located in Discovery Court on the lower level is this two-story-tall, hands-on installation created by Mind Splash (it’s the biggest one of its kind). Children will guide objects through air tubes and watch as they shoot out of various openings. It’s a sight to see.

Tinkering Studio

This room will give children a space to create things ranging from robots to origami. Staff will be on hand, as well as all the materials and “recipes” for projects.
