The Rep Announces its 35th Main Stage Season

The Arkansas Repertory Theatre's 2010-11 season starts with a classic. Running Sept. 10-26 is Shakespeare's Hamlet. 'No play exemplifies the enduring power of our art form more than Hamlet,'said Bob Hupp, the Rep's producing artistic director. 'It's an honor to bring this play to life on our stage.'
After that, audiences will again enjoy the combination of Andrew Lloyd Webber's music and Tim Rice's lyrics in the Tony award-winning Evita, which will run Oct. 22-Nov. 14. Following that is A Christmas Story, running appropriately from Dec. 3-26.
Next comes A Raisin in the Sun, Jan. 21-Feb. 6. Following that is the Young Artists production, Review the Revue, a celebration of the Rep program's first five years.
Hairspray! comes to the Rep April 15-May 15. 'How much fun can you cram into one musical? We'll find out when we create Hairspray! for our patrons this spring,' Hupp said via the Rep's Facebook status.
Ending the season from June 10-26 will be The 39 Steps, a fast-paced whodunit packed with humor and more than 150 characters played by a cast of four. 'You'll be amazed by the whirlwind performances that result when four actors tackle 150 roles in less than two hours,' Hupp said.
The Rep also announced that all Thursday shows will now start at 7 p.m. and that all season subscribers would receive Subscriber Benefit Cards, which will get them discounts at downtown restaurants including Lulav, Copper Grill, Ciao, EJ's Eats & Drinks, Capriccio Grill Italian Steakhouse, Ashley's at the Capital and Dizzy's Gypsy Bistro.
